Official WROUGHTON CLASSIC Souvenirs |
WROUGHTON CLASSIC 2006 The first Wroughton Classic, held this year on August 6th, attracted almost 900 classic cars and 6,500 visitors. These pictures are just a taster of what was on offer at the 2006 Wroughton Classic, we hope to have an even bigger and better selection of classic vehicles, stalls and autojumble at the Wroughton Classic 2007! In addition to more than 75 Daimler Lanchester’s which arrived, escorting the late Queen Mothers State Landau, most marques were well represented including Jowett, Jaguar, Jensen, Triumph, Renault (winners of the KVS Valeting trophy for best club stand), Morris, Early Ford V8, Range Rover, Ford, Panther, Challenger, and many many more.
The Police Vehicle Enthusiasts Club put on a superb display complete with a classic police box (memories of Dixon of Dock Green clouded many an eye for the older visitors and Doctor Who for the younger ones who dared to peek from behind the sofa).
There were several rare/unusual cars including a Gordon Keeble, Jowett Jupiter, Swift Doretti and others plus among the motorcycles a Hesketh. With cars coming from as far afield as Belgium for the event and cars from the 1920’s braving the heat, the show was an enthusiasts dream. No bouncy castles or funfairs just hundreds of classic cars and many equally gleaming owners. The Autojumble was a great success with pitches keenly priced to entice the specialists to this inaugural year.
In the Concours, the First Prize, a magnificent £200 voucher for Car Insurance kindly donated by Adrian Flux Insurance the only insurance company represented there, was awarded to Mike Hewitt and his superb Austin Healey 3000 Mk2 with second place going to the beautifully detailed Triumph Herald Coupe of David Glover.
Organisers Greg & Jo Dunningham, who funded the entire event themselves as no overall show sponsor could be found, were delighted when Frost Restorers Equipment generously produced the show programme. The first Wroughton Classic was a complete success and as a direct result of the support and encouragement from all who attended, the next show, which is already being booked by clubs and autojumblers from this year, will include a wide range of events and unique attractions covering the week-end, and will be staged over two days on August 4th and 5th 2007 at the NMSI Science Museum at Wroughton, near Swindon, Wiltshire. Anyone interested in sponsorship for the 2007 event should contact the organisers for more details.
